Trekkers and Photographers must eat. When I run across an “out of the way” restaurant worthy of mention, I will attempt to write a review. The Smoke restaurant in Dallas is one of those restaurants (www.smokerestaurant.com). It is located southwest of downtown in an area that is less than desirable. However, the area is rebounding. The restaurant is certainly upscale serving a “BBQ nouveau” menu. Feature entrees consist of scallops, halibut, and BBQ. We had crispy hominy with lime and chili as an appetizer. While it certainly was not the best appetizer we have had, it was different and quite good. For the main course we had “The Big Rib” which is a large rib soaked in apple cider vinegar. It was also excellent and fell of the bone without trouble. The meat, however, had too much fat for my taste. For dessert, we had their Hot Fudge and Abuelita Chocolate Pie. I did not notice any hot fudge, but the pie was dense, somewhat creamy and very good. The desserts alone are worth the trip.
